Social evenings
As part of our annual events calendar, STACS holds two social evenings each year, one in December and the other in July. Social evenings are all about spending time with each other, chatting, getting to know other STACS members better, enjoying a few nibbles, and doing a bit of stitch. STACS provides each person with an activity pack, some members like to sit and stitch whilst chatting, and some just chat and take their pack home with them. On one of our previous July social evenings, we were given the option to choose several small pieces of fabric and stitch them together with simple running stitch. During that evening, I joined eleven or twelve pieces together and created a square shaped piece of fabric which I took home. I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for and for a while it just sat on my worktable until one day I noticed a box I’d been saving sitting on the shelf. My piece of fabric matched the size and shape of my box perfectly and my plan was to use it to cover the lid but first I wanted to embroider it with stitch . I cut out some wadding and backing fabric, tacked the layers together, stitched, and added some beads. Finally, I sewed it to the lid of the box and was really pleased and surprised by the result.
