July social – Teddy Bears Picnic
July was our ‘end of term’ and our last meeting before the summer break so instead of having a speaker we had an activity – a mini make during a stitch and chat session. Usually there is a lot more chat than stitch going on but that’s the fun of it, enjoying sitting with your tribe and being creative.
The activity is discussed and agreed by the Coordinating Group (COG) and all the materials for the mini make are provided. For all those who choose to come along all they need to bring is a basic sewing kit.
This year the activity was suggested and coordinated by Shirley who took on the sourcing of the materials and the preparation of all the kit bags. Each bag had everything we needed to complete a small felt bear with a stone in the bottom to act as a weight which allowed the bear to sit up. The kits had all the same supplies in them, the only difference being colours.
At the end of the evening every bear was gathered there for certain because that was the day the teddy bears had their picnic. A table was laid with a gingham cloth and a tiny tea set and the super cute, and very individual bears, thoroughly enjoyed their picnic.
The meeting was an enormous success so a big thank you to Shirley for planning, sourcing, making up the kits, and providing the instructions to make the bears.
