Suzette Smart

Suzette Smart is a renowned textile artist whose journey into the world of fabric and thread is both inspiring and deeply rooted in personal experience. 

With a background in Fashion & Textile Design and years of dedication to her craft, Suzette has become a master of storytelling through textiles. Her work is not only a reflection of her technical skills but also of her passion for nature, sustainability, and the art of creating something unique from the simplest materials.

Her work often includes hidden histories in the inherited or found fabrics and repurposed embroideries (own and other) that she chooses to use for collage and sometimes as a foundation layer. 

It was Suzette’s hidden histories style that formed the basis of our workshop, we used fabric to create a window that would frame photographs or letters.  We then added fabric ‘doors’ which could be opened to reveal the treasures within, the doors were decorated with lace and other small mementos.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and went home inspired and full of ideas.
